WISC: Women and Inclusion in Supramolecular Chemistry
Event Expectations
WISC understands that discussions around equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility issues can be difficult and here we provide some information here about what you can expect at a WISC event

General
WISC has an ethos of “calling in” rather than “calling out” so that there is a safe space for these discussions to take place without a fear of making a mistake
WISC welcomes participation in panel discussions/workshops (e.g. sharing of lived experiences) and acknowledges that there will be different points of view on sensitive topics
Therefore, WISC requests that participants are respectful of others at all times and comments regarding differing points of view are not directed at individuals (e.g. “calling out”)

Links to online platforms provided for facilitating panel discussions are not for sharing on social media (unless stated otherwise) and WISC reserves the right to moderate comments that may cause harm to individuals

WISC is aware that it will not always get everything right and welcomes feedback

Participation as a Member of a Panel Discussion

If you have agreed to participate as an external panel member in a panel discussion, first of all thank you on behalf of WISC!
Here is some information about what you can expect:
1. There will be an online/in person meeting before the event to discuss the topic, planned schedule and roles during the event.

For panel discussions with pre-submitted questions, these will be discussed in the planning meeting.

Please inform the moderator of the event if there are any topics that are off-limits or you do not wish to discuss. If relevant, a safe word will be agreed upon in the planning meeting so that panel members can indicate if they do not wish to answer a question asked live during the event.

2. All panel members will be emailed at least 3 working days before the event with a summary of what was agreed for running the event and all participants give their written consent for participation.

3. During the event, the moderator or another WISC representative will:
a. inform the audience of the points above in General and that panel members have the right not answer a question

b. introduce the topic, panel members and guide the conversation

c. where relevant, pre-screen questions that are asked in real time
