Dr. Claudia Bizzarri

Associate Professor - University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy

Claudia has been an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Rome Tor Vergata since September 2024. Previously, she worked as an independent group leader and lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), where she obtained her Habilitation (venia legendi). She also served as a Deputy Professor at the University of Hohenheim during the winter semester 2023–2024. During this period, she developed photoactive coordination complexes based on earth‑abundant metals for applications in photocatalytic CO₂ reduction, photochemistry, and bioimaging.

Her passion for photophysics and photochemistry dates back to her doctoral studies at the University of Munster (2008–2011). She gained further experience in close collaboration with industry during her postdoctoral work at RWTH Aachen University in the CAT Catalytic Center (2014–2016), and earlier as a process engineer at AIXTRON (2012–2014).

Her current research focuses on photoactive supramolecular metal–organic assemblies addressing sustainability challenges, particularly in solar energy utilization and waste valorization.

Claudia also serves as the Erasmus representative for her department and is deeply engaged in mentoring young students as they navigate their academic and professional paths. She is the spokesperson at her university for the Global Women’s Breakfast, an IUPAC initiative promoting equity and inclusion in science.

She and her family live with a black cat named Jazz, an enthusiastic supervisor of every writing session. As a mother of two daughters, Claudia is strongly committed to supporting and empowering (female) students who aspire to careers in STEM, encouraging them to pursue scientific excellence without feeling they must give up having a family.
