DR SAMANTHA BODMAN

Vice-Chancellor's Independent Research Fellow - Loughborough University

Samantha (Sam) obtained her PhD in 2019 from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, under the supervision of Associate Professor Christopher Fitchett.

Following her doctorate, she relocated to UK as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry, at Loughborough University working with Dr Stephen Butler. This EPSRC funded project focused on the development of new luminescent probes for multisite recognition of polyphosphate anions.

In October 2022, she joined the Willcock group in the Materials Department as a Senior PDRA, developing new hydrogel materials that can effectively encapsulate a variety of ion sensors. In April 2023, she was awarded a VC Independent Research Fellowship to pursue a personal research programme on the design and synthesis of new supramolecular materials for applications in solar cell efficiency and optoelectronics.

Outside of academia, Sam loves travelling, spending time with family and friends, food, wine and boardgames.
