DR. ANNA SLATER

Professor Anna Slater WISC Vice Chair (Disability, Neurodivergence and Chronic Illness) 

Royal Society University Research Fellow – University of Liverpool

 

Anna is a Royal Society URF based at the University of Liverpool. She joined WISC in 2020 and is still enjoying the novelty of being one of two Annas in a meeting! Anna completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in 2011. She then held PDRA positions in porphyrin assemblies and porous organic cage materials at Nottingham and Liverpool respectively, and her first daughter was born in 2015. At the end of 2016, she took up an EPSRC-Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship to establish a research group using continuous flow chemistry for materials science. Her second daughter was born in 2018, and in Jan 2021 Anna took up a URF to apply continuous flow methodology to supramolecular chemistry.

 

Anna’s research centres on the importance of process control and molecular structure in self-assembly and other dynamic processes. Flow chemistry has unique benefits in reproducibility, flexibility, scalability, automation and reaction process windows that the group exploit to form new structures and gain mechanistic insight. Anna is passionate about inclusion, diversity, and equity in HE. She has a chronic health condition (epilepsy) and is currently involved in setting up the WISC Disability/Chronic Illness/Neurodivergence Cluster. Outside of work, she is a habitual runner and can often be found jogging round Liverpool lip-syncing badly to loud music.
